Our next wine tasting is at Scott’s Liquors on St Clair Ave in St Paul. this Saturday from 3:00-6:00. Will be pouring a bunch of refreshing summer wines from France and Italy. Come thirsty and bring your checkbooks.

Thank you to everyone at Dolce Vita Wine Shop in Chaska MN for all your help at our wine tasting. We had an excellent crowd and had so much fun, looking forward to the next one.

Come to a free wine tasting this Friday, August 17th at Princeton’s Liquors – 12790 Bass Lake Road, Maple Grove. We will be tasting a light refreshing Bordeaux white, a Bordeaux Clairet (think light fruity wine between a Rose and Merlot) and our delicious Provence Rose. We will be having a wine tasting this Saturday, August 11th, at Scott’s liquors – 1464 St Clair Ave in St Paul. We will be sampling a couple of Bordeaux reds as well as a Rose from Provence. The tasting will be from 3:00 to 6:00, stop by if you can…bring your friends, neighbors etc and pick up some fabulous French wines at great prices!!

We welcome Champagne Dumenil as the newest member of our selections. Located in Sacy just outside of Reims, a beautiful area with a lovely new tasting room. They make fabulous champagnes(as well as a line of Saffron products) and are truly gracious people. Thank you to Frederic, Valerie and Frederique for everything!

 

I think this will make deliveries a little easier. I wonder how many pallets it will hold.

Just returned from a very nice but short trip to Paris and Reims. We stayed in the Marais district, which we normally do. It has a lot going on and is close to everything. Our apartment just happened to be in the Jewish section, which was fine….however I have not had a bad pain au chocolat until now. Not sure why but 2 different Jewish Boulangeries and it was like they were days old. Had a terrific dinner at a Moroccan restaurant(Le 404) with a couple bottles of fabulous Burgundy wine. A quick day trip to Reims where we visited the Notre-Dame Cathedral where all the French Kings were crowned, very cool. Had a tour of Taittinger, very cool under ground cellars where they store millions of bottles. Drove to Sacy and visited Champagne Dumenil. Was greeted and hosted by the lovely Valerie where she provided samples of most of there Champagnes which were all excellent. After our visit at Dumenil we drove to Ludes and visited Champagne Gaidoz-Forget(sorry we were so late). We were hosted by Bertille, daughter of owners Anne and Luc. Due to visiting during harvest it was a very busy time to be in Reims. Again some fabulous champagne and like Bordeaux all are members of the Independent Vignerons, meaning small family owned and run operations that do everything from growing and harvesting to bottling. I really think this brings a higher level of quality to the product. Oh, and Dumenil grows Safron…they sell safron honey, mustard and just the threads. I guess Safron likes the chalky soil in the area.

When in the Saint Emilion area I would highly recommend eating at Chateau de Candale (www.http://chateau-de-candale.fr/en/). Excellent food in a beautiful setting.
